The Art of Leadership consists of 52-weekly lessons that are short (approx. 3-5 pages) and easily digestible.
Each week consists of:
An important topic pertaining to leadership.
A bible verse that pertains to the topic.
A historical short story involving famous American leaders to further illustrate that point. Some examples include (General George Washington, Admiral Zumwalt, President John Adams, Albert Einstein, and many more)
List of different techniques that a leader can use in their work center today to help fix or address this specific area in leadership development.
A few tasks to work on before they move on to next week’s lesson.
Yankee Doodle Dave is an illustration created by David to further enhance learning. He makes an appearance each week to aid you in your lesson.
"I had the pleasure of serving alongside David during my time as Commanding Officer at Naval Air Station Key West, and I saw first hand the integrity, creativity, and quiet leadership that define both the man and his work. With over 26 years in uniform, including command of both a Navy fighter squadron and a Naval Air Station, I've seen countless attempts to distill the essence of leadership- few succeed with the clarity and resonance that David has achieved here."
"The Art of Leadership is more than a collection of illustration; it's a visually compelling and philosophically grounded tribute to the values that guide real leaders: courage, humility, decisiveness, and service to others. David's ability to capture these principles with both simplicity and impact speaks volumes about his depth of experience and his talent as a communicator."
"This is the kind of work that belongs on the desks and walls of those who lead- whether in uniform, in business, or in community. It reminds us not just how to lead, but why we lead."
Bobby Baker
Captain, U.S. Navy (Ret.)
"As the Founder and CEO of Operation Second Chance, Inc., I am delighted to write this letter in support of David Ocheltree’s book The Art of Leadership. Here at Operation Second Chance, we honor and serve our nation’s veterans."
"As a twenty-six year career Naval Senior Chief Petty Officer and Hospital Corpsman, David knows what it means to put his life on the line and lead troops in combat and tend to his brothers in arms. His leadership training from our nation is exceptional. That coupled with his Master of Business Degree speaks greatly of his knowledge and experience in both the military and private sector."
"David’s guide for leadership training includes 250 years of American Excellence. Each chapter includes evidence of our founders’ spirituality that birthed this nation. The pages march through history revealing leaders from George Washington, Abraham Lincoln including great scientists and entrepreneurs."
"In The Art of Leadership, David matches their stories to core qualities of bravery, morality, intuition and faith. It is my honor to help bring to the American public these cherished values so skillfully designed in the course work."
"David has a strong passion for servant leadership which has been demonstrated consistently in and out of the military. His actions consistently prioritize the needs and growth of others, fostering a collaborative and empowering environment. This is leading with humility and empathy. David’s leadership style lies in serving others and helping them and the organization ultimately succeed. The Art of Leadership is a book that can help leaders today and the leaders of tomorrow learn what Servant Leadership is all about. This speaks to the core of the mission of Operation Second Chance!"
With a grateful heart, Cindy McGrew
